| Muangbadan Khao Laem Dam, Kanchanaburi
The old Wang Wiwekaram temple was submerged under water when the Vachiralongkorn dam was constructed in 1979. Several Mon villages were also moved to the hilltop, to escape being an underwater town. Unfortunately, a temple, which was built by a most respected monk, did not survive the flood. The monk led the people to the hilltop and built another temple which was named Wat Wang Wiwekaram. The old church and bell house were shave been submerged under the water ever since.
If we look down into that deep, clear water, we can see some signs of buildings beneath the waters surface. In summer, when the water in the reservoir is running low, these abandon buildings show themselves to tourists at their full height. This can be visited by boat. Boat trips around the lake to sightsee or bird watch are also available. In addition, you can enjoy rafting and stay there. This place is also famous for many kinds of fish living here. Recommended period: March - April |
